You want us to do what, Ms. Cathy?

I somewhat introduced my Level II Thursday class to embroidery. I was a bit jaded with my efforts and I think the students were too. The concept flew right over their heads and for the first time I lost their attention.
I spent most of the evening fretting over my failed attempt to teach them to the idea of making stitches in tiny little squares printed on fabric. I'm not sure any of them grasped the concept. This was a huge leap of faith!
Embroidery is a bit more in depth and tedious than the little shapes they're accustomed to sewing. So, I went back to the drawing board and devised a more clear and precise technique for teaching embroidery. I'm confident my idea will hold their attention long enough for them to grasp the concept. I know they will love it once they get it!!!

Expansion Needed

It's exciting to think I may need to expand sooner than I thought. With the beginning of each new session more students are enrolling and I receive more inquiries. It seems the word on the streets these days is "The Sewing School". My sweet "little women" are shouting praises from the rooftops. I'm so blessed to be the hot topic in this neck of the woods. I have students, parents, teachers and those who wish they had girls singing praises for my renewing an interest in an age old craft which has skipped a couple of generations.

Boys are also welcome to learn to sew...in the north, boys learn to sew; here, not so much...it must be a Southern thing!!! However, I have a neighbor friend who said he learned to sew from his grandmother...he sews all the time. His wife doesn't know how to sew! I thought his story was so cute! My three brothers sew! My youngest brother is a skilled craftsman, has been making leather purses, wallets and shoes for many years. In 1938, my dad hand sewed my sister's first little dress out of fabric from the Olympia Cotton Mills. How sweet is that?

At this late date in my life I never dreamed something so wonderful as The Sewing School would come from an art I learned many years ago. I can simply say this is wonderful and I love it! I truly thank everyone for their love and support!

Come, join us. We have so much fun at The Sewing School!!

New Year, New Classes, Lots of Fun!!!

The four week schedule is working out for everyone. The parents like this because there are options available for their busy schedules. Our Thursday class has been busy making beautiful Valentine hearts and learning to sew on buttons. They are such a happy group of little women and a pleasure to teach.

Our Monday class is doing quite well. They have caught the sewing bug too. They've asked me to ask their parents if they could come sew everyday! Well, wouldn't that be nice? They've finished a little bird and a beautiful Valentine heart accented with a satin bow. One student, so proud of her little birdie, took it for show and tell at her school. They too, are so talented and such a pleasure to teach. I love all of my little women!

Our next four week session will begin Tuesday, February 9th. We're also planning summer camps, so stay in touch. Come join us, we have so much fun at The Sewing School!!!
